Icebreaker games for groups, on one screen

For a quick icebreaker, put Read the Room on the shared screen: everyone answers a light would-you-rather on their phone, then guesses how the group split. It takes 5 minutes, nobody has to speak first, and the reveal gives everyone something to talk about.

A 5-minute icebreaker

  1. Open roomful.hatcherylake.com/host on the meeting room screen and choose 5 rounds.
  2. Everyone joins from their phone with the code and picks an animal, so nobody's name is on screen.
  3. Play Read the Room. After each reveal, ask one person from the smaller side why they picked it.

Questions that work with people who just met

  1. Would you rather always be 10 minutes late or always be 20 minutes early?
  2. Pick one: Pancakes or waffles?
  3. Pick one: Sunrise or sunset?
  4. Pick one: Summer or winter?
  5. Pick one: Books or movies?
  6. Pick one: Breakfast for dinner or dinner for breakfast?
  7. Pick one: Road trip or fly there?
  8. Pick one: Morning person or night owl?
  9. Would you rather explore space or explore the deep ocean?
  10. Would you rather have free Wi-Fi everywhere or have free coffee everywhere?
  11. Would you rather speak every language or play every instrument?
  12. Pick one: Camping or fancy hotel?

Which game for which group

  • People who just met: Read the Room and Quick Draw. Neither asks anything about the others.
  • A team that knows each other: add Most Likely To, with its lighter prompts like "plan the group trip" or "bring snacks for everyone."

Questions

Does it work for a remote meeting?

It's built for one room with one shared screen. Remote players would need to see the host's screen, for example by screen sharing, and join from their phone.

Do players have to put their names on screen?

No. Each player picks an animal, and that is who they are on the big screen.

Does anyone need to install anything?

No. The big screen and every phone just open roomful.hatcherylake.com in a browser.

How many people can play?

From 2 to 12 phones. It's best with 4 to 8 people in one room.

Is it free?

Yes. No account and no app to buy.
