The guess the baby picture game, on a TV with phones

Collect a baby picture from each guest, add the photos in Roomful's lobby with four names each, and play: every photo fills the TV, everyone taps who they think it is on their own phone, and the big screen keeps score, with a bonus for the fastest right answer.

Setting it up

  1. A few days before, ask each guest to send you a baby or childhood picture. Save them on the laptop that will run the game.
  2. Open roomful.hatcherylake.com/host on that laptop, connected to the TV. In the lobby, open Add your own questions, then under Trivia with photos press Add photos and pick them all at once (up to 20).
  3. Beside each photo, type the right name first and then three other guests, split by slashes: Aunt May / Grandpa Ray / Cousin Lu / Uncle Jo. The TV asks "Who or what is this?" unless you start with your own question: Who is this baby? / Aunt May / Grandpa Ray / Cousin Lu / Uncle Jo.
  4. Each row says Ready when it has a photo and four answers. The photos and answers are kept in that browser, so you can set them up the day before.

Playing

  1. Everyone joins from their phone with the four-letter code on the TV, picks an animal and can add their name.
  2. The host picks Trivia, sets the rounds to the number of photos or more, and presses Start. Your photos play first, then the game's own trivia questions.
  3. Each photo fills the TV with its four names. Phones show the four numbers in the same colors; tap one before the 20-second clock runs out.
  4. The reveal strikes out the wrong names with who picked them, then lights up the right one. Trivia: a question goes up with four numbered answers, the same on every phone. Everyone taps an answer on their phone before the 20-second clock runs out. A right answer is 2 points, and the fastest right answer gets 3.

Ideas beyond baby pictures

  • Whose childhood bedroom, pet or first car? Any photo with four possible answers works.
  • Family history: old photos of the grandparents, with the year, the city or the occasion as the answers.
  • Office party: the team's baby pictures or desk close-ups, with four coworkers' names.
  • A baby shower: the parents' baby pictures beside guests', or photos from the parents' childhoods.

Questions

Does everyone need the photos on their phone?

No. The photos show only on the big screen. Phones show the four numbers and say to read the question on the big screen.

How many photos can I add?

Up to 20 photos at a time, from the laptop or phone running the big screen.

Can we play over a video call?

Yes. Share the host's screen in the call and send everyone the join link; see party games for a video call.

Does anyone need to install anything?

No. The big screen and every phone just open roomful.hatcherylake.com in a browser.

How many people can play?

From 2 to 12 phones. It's best with 4 to 8 people in one room.

Is it free?
