A free game like Jackbox, right in the browser

Roomful works the way Jackbox does: the game shows on one big screen, and everyone plays on their own phone. The difference is that Roomful is free and runs in any web browser, so the host doesn't buy or install anything first.

What's the same, and what's different

Jackbox Party Packs are games you buy and run on a console, a computer or a TV app; players then join from their phones. Roomful keeps that shape (one shared screen, phones as controllers) and drops the purchase: the host opens roomful.hatcherylake.com/host on a smart TV's browser or a laptop, and phones join with a four-letter code.

  • Same: a big screen everyone watches, phones as controllers, rounds of a minute or less.
  • Different: free, nothing to install, and players pick an animal instead of typing a name.
  • Fewer games for now: Roomful has three games. A Jackbox pack holds five, including drawing and writing games, which Roomful doesn't have yet.

The three games

  • Read the Room: a would-you-rather question goes up on the big screen. Everyone picks side A or B on their phone, then guesses how many players picked the same side, counting themselves. An exact guess is 3 points; one off is 1.
  • Most Likely To: a prompt goes up, and everyone votes on their phone for the player in the room who fits it best. Everyone who voted for the player with the most votes gets 2 points, ties included.
  • Quick Draw: a red circle on the big screen and a red pad on every phone wait a random moment, then turn green and say TAP. The three fastest clean taps get 3, 2 and 1 points; a tap before the signal gets nothing.

An example round

Six friends play Read the Room. The question is "Live by the beach, or live in the mountains?" Four pick the beach. A beach player who guessed 4 gets 3 points; one who guessed 3 or 5 gets 1. A mountain player who guessed 2 gets 3 points. Then the big screen shows the split, with each animal, its guess and its points.

Questions

Do players need to own the game?

Does it work on a smart TV?

If the TV has a web browser, open roomful.hatcherylake.com/host on it. Otherwise plug a laptop into the TV or cast a browser tab.

How many people can play?

From 2 to 12 phones. It's best with 4 to 8 people in one room.

Is it free?

Yes. No account and no app to buy.
