A drawing guessing game, played on your phones

In Sketchy, every phone gets its own secret prompt, and everyone draws theirs with a finger at the same time. Then each drawing goes up on the TV in turn: the others write fake titles for it, the TV mixes in the real one, and everyone votes for the title they think is real. You score for finding it, for fooling friends with your fake, and for drawing well enough to be found.

How a game goes

  1. Every phone shows a different secret prompt. Everyone has 75 seconds to draw theirs, with five colors, Undo and Clear. Keep it hidden.
  2. The first drawing goes up on the big screen. Its artist sits back; everyone else has 50 seconds to write a title that could pass for the real one.
  3. The big screen shows the fake titles and the real one, numbered, in capitals so no spelling gives it away. Everyone votes on their phone.
  4. The reveal shows the real title, who found it, and who fell for whose fake. Then the next drawing goes up, until every drawing has had its turn.

Scoring

Sketchy: every phone gets its own secret prompt, such as "A shark at a job interview", and everyone draws theirs at the same time. Then each drawing goes up on the big screen in turn. Everyone except its artist writes a fake title for it, the big screen mixes the fakes with the real title, and everyone votes for the one they think is real. Finding the real title is 3 points, each player your fake fools is 2 points to you, and the artist gets 1 point for each player who finds it. If your title is the real one, word for word, it comes off the board and you get 3 points without voting.

Tips

  • Draw the idea, not the details: a shark, a tie and a desk say "a shark at a job interview" faster than a perfect fin.
  • The best fakes are close: "A shark at the dentist" fools more people than something random.
  • A game takes one round to draw plus about a minute and a half per drawing, so 6 players play for about 10 minutes.
  • Pick the Holidays deck for prompts like "Santa on a diet" or "A turkey running away".

Questions

How is this different from Doodle Duel?

In Doodle Duel everyone draws the same prompt and votes for the best drawing. In Sketchy everyone draws a different secret prompt, and the game is guessing what each drawing is.

Can the artist vote?

No. The artist knows the answer, so they sit out the titles and the vote for their own drawing, and score 1 point for each player who finds it.

Does anyone need to install anything?

No. The big screen and every phone just open roomful.hatcherylake.com in a browser.

How many people can play?

From 2 to 12 phones. It's best with 4 to 8 people in one room.

Is it free?

Yes. No account and no app to buy. For a table with no TV, the Printable Party Pack is a $5 download.
